Field Trip
* If there is any discrepancy between field trip and schedule, the final schedule shall prevail.
The field trip aims to confirm the possibility and feasibility of sites.

This is a virtual tour created by the City University of Hong Kong for industrial day 2020. The virtual tour is introducing the facility and project. It also provides Zoom chat, promotion video, and an info window for newcomers. The website is generated by 3DVista VT Pro, which I expect to use. Even though this virtual tour doesn't provide background music or soundtrack, there has its value for reference.
This is a North District virtual tour program. Using virtual reality technology to create a virtual online guided tour system in the North District, viewers can use any electronic device to experience the beauty of the North District’s environment on the Internet. This is a North District virtual tour program. Using virtual reality technology to create a virtual online guided tour system in the North District, viewers can use any electronic device to experience the beauty of the North District’s environment on the Internet. The website introduces a few places, such as Fanling Wai, North District Park, and Shek Wu Hui. Hotspots provide information and terrain. Users can understand the north district without geographic restrictions.
Sonic Panoramas is used for vison-based motion tracking, image analysis, real-time spatialized sound, and landscape image. It aims to enrich audiences’ sense of space by sonic and landscape. The installation is included a 15’ diameter circular space and cylindrical screen. It would project a 360-degree panoramic landscape. More participants have involved more visual and auditory merging. This project uses advanced technology to make the interaction between audio and photography. The motion tracking and installation are totally different from VR technology. However, I consider this is a precedent of immersive experience.
The Sonic Panoramas explore ways of representing place and landscape using digital information rather than more conventionally representational location recordings. Data in digital images become source material for music. Sites were selected for their reputation as characteristic vistas of these cities, like postcard images. Sound palettes and data mapping decisions were inspired by the photographs' atmosphere. The creator used Graphic Converter and SuperCollider for image conversion and sound generation.
When in doubt, take a walk is a YouTube Channel created by Sampson Wong. Sampson Wong is a city researcher, he always walks through the different communities to see the story, people, and architecture, aim to re-known Hong Kong and love it. Sampson Wong also invites the music creator Watergolddd to present the mood by background music instead of a narrator, music in every district is different. A slow walk is a way to enjoy and observe the city. Living in a rapid lifestyle, most people are not adept and willing to try it. Have you ever walk through a district aimlessly? I consider that a slow walk can benefit our mental health and reflect our being. To be a city watcher, downshifting may the lifestyle we yearn for.
Facing the climate and ecological crisis, the artwork reminds people to respect and equality with other species. He cooperates with experts and using orchid to create text installation in a natural environment. Zheng Bo also manufactures a 360-degree video. Audiences can enjoy the journey, scenery and listen to the peaceful site sound. After watching the video, I am deeper be acquainted with Lantau Island. In the video, Zheng Bo takes the camera position above his head. In my opinion, I think the sight is a bit high, but I am impressed with the stability. I can't imagine if I need to hold the camera in still for three minutes and walk through the route. It is nice artwork!

Other virtual tours (for reference only)
Affected by pneumonia, many exhibitions and galleries are closed, using online virtual exhibitions to enjoy the artwork without geographic limitations. This is the general trend that people need to adapt to. Virtual Tour is common for the tourism and property industry, mostly presenting an indoor area. So, I refer to some virtual tours of online galleries, to see how the website is designed, such as user experience, user interface, floor plan, layout, button arrangement, etc.

Bringing Photos to Life with Sounds
Frohlich, David
“It definitely made you more aware of your sense of hearing and more aware of sounds… You had to think more about capturing the sound and taking a photo to go with it, rather than taking a photo and then the sound."
"They also provide an opportunity to test early speculations that ambient sounds may enhance memory for a photographs, and that ambient photographs may even be preferable to home video clips under some circumstances.”
COMMENT
Many sounds surround the world—nature sounds, human-made sounds, the sounds of technology, etc. Most artists will examine the ambient sound the participants would like to record, such as the tool Audioprint player and the Blink digital audiocamera. Ambient sound rather than voice commentary is the most attractive form. Also, sound enhances memory compared to a photograph alone.
Sound, paper and memorabilia: resources for a simpler digital photography
David Frohlich & Jacqueline Fennel
“In fact sound was perceived to be the most attractive media type to combine with photos, compared to handwriting, text or even short video clips. This is because it was seen to have a variety of uses, including adding atmosphere with ambient sound, increasing nostalgia with music, and attaching a voice message with narration.”
"While the initial audiophoto trial suggested that ambient sounds were the most attractive kinds to combine with photographs on a camera, further studies suggested that voiceover, music and recorded conversation might be added to good effect later. "
COMMENT
I always think about the relationship between sound and hearing. If I lost hearing, I might subvert the cognition of the world. For me, Silent and white noise are also sound. In psychology, the sound is always connecting to our memory, and it also easily affects our emotions, which is why the film adds music.
Getting Started Developing Virtual Reality Experiences
Marty Resnick
“For application leaders driving their organization's digital application strategies:
-
Start with a single use case and flesh out the requirement for a minimum viable product (MVP).
-
Develop a list of technologies and tools that will be required in the MVP based on type of VR product (for example, 360-degree video or 3D immersive) product to be deployed.
-
Start with an inventory of internal skills as well as future portfolio to make a determination to build projects in-house, outsource or a mix."
COMMENT
In the first stage of my project, I would like to use 360-degree photos to introduce Hong Kong. After reference different artist work and trend of technology. Virtual Reality seems more attractive and leading my works to become unique and personal. I choose Virtual Tour to present the imagery to achieve advanced complexity and interactivity. Apart from studying photography and audio, I must explore how to operate the VR experience and its requirements, such as haptic feedback, cameras, capture devices, spatial audio, postproduction software, etc. What kind of tools correspond. Lucky, Virtual Tour is not a new thing in this generation. There are many online resources and software that can provide a quick and convenient platform to achieve the outcome.
Immersive Versus Non-immersive Experience: Exploring the Feasibility of Memory Assessment Through 360° Technology
Sara Ventura, Eleonora Brivio, Giuseppe Riva, and Rosa M. Baños
“Immersive and non-immersive media vary based upon the participant’s point-of-view and the experience produced during use. Through immersive 360° technology, participants can view the full panorama with the HMD VR support, creating a high sense of presence and immersion, as if they are essentially inside the environment. Through non-immersive 360° environments, participants can view the 360° panorama content by moving or rotating the device in which the content is played, such as a PC, smartphone, or tablet (Repetto et al., 2018)."
"The realism provided by the 360° immersive environment and the relative sense of spatial presence – defined as “the sense of being there,” in a virtual or physical environment (Riva and Mantovani, 2012) – seem to play a role in strengthening the memory trace, which the non-immersive condition does not support."
COMMENT
An immersive experience is an important standard for a VR experience. The article mentions that more sense of presence and immersion audiences can reach by presenting a more surreal scene. Tablets demonstrate my project, and it is not a formal immersive tool. You may ask why I don't use the VR headset to enjoy the experiences but using the tablet? Some users have not used VR headsets before, and they may not accept the extremely close and real scene in close distance, so using a tablet to browse the virtual tour is the best and comfortable's equipment.
